This is a used pair of SP100R2 in good overall condition, with some light marking - I'd rank them as about a 7 out of 10 overall.
The current version of these speakers, called the Classic 100, retail for £10,250.
I've never made it a huge secret that BBC style speakers are not my preferred way to design a speaker (my lack of diplomacy resulting in much irritation to some over the years) but I do have very fond memories of the SP100R2.
When these speakers were brand new (circa 2010?) we were approached by Spendor to become stockists who loaned us a few models for an extended period, and it was this model that made a long lasting impression.
Whilst the colourations from the plastic drive units and thin walled bituminous damped cabinets (I don't do diplomacy, remember...) did recognisably impart their typical character on the sound, for once I could dismiss these drawbacks as quite simply the speakers were so much fun to - the big and bold sound was quite uncommon (then and now) and made the sound more believable than the norm. They were also easy to drive, so naturally suited my predilection for lower powered single ended feedback free valve amplifiers, and the speakers fitted hand in glove with the natural flowing low frequencies, dynamics and speed that can only come from exceptional amplification.
There was a substance, textures and scale to these speakers that meant they worked across all types of music (as only any good speaker should) and despite their low frequency prowess they were fairly easy to accommodate in most normal sized rooms too.
Anyone that doubts our long term audio memory should take solace in the news that this pair sound exactly as I remember from 15 years ago. If you have the space for them and their rather imposing aesthetics then I think they are something of a used audio bargain.
These speakers will include a pair of stands (as can be seen in some of the pictures) to get you up and running, but the speakers will benefit from something better.
There are only 3 biwire links, we can supply wire replacements if required.
