The Silvercore 324 is a superb TVC (Transformer Volume Control). Handmade in Germany this is a 3 input (two line level and one balanced) design with a 24 step volume control (hence the 324 model number). Output is unbalanced only.
The transformers are wound with pure silver (imagine the cost of that today!), along with the rest of the internal wiring and the chassis is a high polished Zebrano wood with Stainless steel top and base.
It's a unit we supplied new to its original owner. There are some light scratches to the lid and some to the wood on the rear, but it is in overall very good condition (with the slight caveat that one of the legs is a touch shorter than the rest!).
This is a superb pre amplifier, like the best TVC pre amplifiers it is highly transparent, dynamic and naturally colourful (and by that I really mean it doesn't strip the colour from the music, as many conventional passive pre amplifiers can). What these simple hifi descriptions do not portray is the sense of rightness to the sound conveyed, a focus and togetherness that encompasses everything musically important.
The only downsides of any real relevance are the low number of inputs, the dual mono volume controls and the relatively limited number of steps on the volume control.
These volume steps seem to have been chosen well to work with most systems but a hi-fi system is a complex and unknown thing, if, for example, your power amplification and/or speakers are very sensitive then the lowest step on the control might still be too loud - or vice versa. So before purchasing it's recommended that you let us know what it will be partnered with and we will do our best to try to endure it's compatible.
