I really enjoy cooking, but even after picking best ingredients the results can be bordering on inedible slop.
The same can be the case with hi-fi equipment, many is the time that parts list has one salivating, but the results are disapointing.
When you've got an experienced pair of hands at the helm then chances improve considerably, and Segno is Guy Sergeants brand, a man who is responsible for working on many iconic hi-fi products over more years than I'm sure he'd like me to say.
The ingredients list in the Maya is seriously impressive, the magnets are made from Samarium Cobalt (instead of the now common Neodymium), the coils are wound with very pure silver wire and the cantilever is Titanium, which is light and stiff and found on our favourite cartridge of all time (the much more costly Audio Note Io). If that's not enough to get you salivating then I'm not sure what will...
This is combined with a fine line stylus and an aluminium cartridge body The squared body makes alignment easy.
The Maya sounds an awful lot more expensive, and special, than you'd anticipate at this price point.
Like the best cartridges it's a design that can capture the colours of instruments superbly without adding to them nor stripping them of what makes them sound lifelike. There's excitement about the way it handles transients, it's fast, vivid yet not aggressive.
A more thorough write up to follow shortly...
