The new Saturn MK3 is effectively two products in one - a very high quality CD player with the helpful addition of digital inputs enabling you to connect it to a variety of digital sources, just as you would with a stand alone DAC, giving the same great sound to all your digital music.
You can clearly hear the Rega DNA in the sound of the Saturn-R, it’s has an appealing warmth and smoothness, yet is still impressively revealing. If you’re after a player that also has the functionality to work with a wide variety of other digital sources then the Saturn is well worthwhile short listing as it has a very useful blend of strengths.
The top loading CD mechanism is a pleasure to use thanks to their trademark cantilevered damped lid being.
The digital inputs include USB (192kHz 24 Bit asynchronous), 2 x Toslink optical S/Pdif and 2 x Coaxial S/Pdif along with digital outputs enabling you to 'daisy chain' it into another system if required (and a direct digital output from the CD Transport too).
A pair of Wolfson WM8742 DAC chips are used for conversion and are mated to a high quality analogue output stage, all fed by multiple over sized power supplies.
