The Planar 3 RS is a special edition turntable package, which offers a saving over the individual purchase prices along with a brand new high performance plinth design and smart new finish. With a prefitted ND5 MM cartridge and Neo power supply, this package offers exceptional value for money.

Rega has pioneered the use of lightweight, ultra rigid plinths for many years. The use of lightweight particulate core with a highly rigid phenolic resin skin became the foundations of the high level of performance achieved by the now iconic original Planar range. 

The new Planar 3 RS Edition takes this design philosophy and brings it down to a more affordable price than ever before. Using a stiff High Pressure Laminate (HPL) as usually found on the Planar 6, Planar 8 and Planar 10 models, it is faced with a great looking brushed metal dark aluminium skin with a beautiful satin finish. As you'd expect from Rega, their double brace system further increases rigidity between the tonearm mounting and the main hub bearing, which forms a structurally sound “stressed beam” assembly. 

This complex plinth design prevents energy absorption and unwanted resonance, which will add unnatural distortions to the music. Equally, heavier mass can transfer more unwanted energy, such as motor or bearing noise directly into the rotating record. The use of braces allows double thickness phenolic resin in these key areas which directly addresses the issue of mass absorption and unwanted energy transmission.

The ND5 moving magnet cartridge is prefitted and just requires the tracking force to be set (we can do this for you with some notice), and in the bundle is the Neo power supply which not only improves performance it also offers speed switching between 33.3 and 45rpm.
