Ortofon ST-80SE Step Up Transformer

The ST-80 SE is the current top of the Ortofon range of step up transformers. As befits such a position this is a design that is incredibly well considered and beautifully made.

The transformers themselves feature more and larger permalloy layers than the models beneath it in the range, along with a greater number of windings. The transformers are then housed in 10mm thick aluminium cylinders that are bored out of solid aluminium blocks.

This transformer is not adjustable and suited to cartridges with less than 10 ohm impedance, which includes the designs such as Ortofon's Cadenza series, their range of SPUs, and flagship MC Windfeld, Xpression and MC Diamond models.
