Four (two red, two black) high quality gold plated BFA Camcon connectors. Suitable for both screw and solder connections with cable exit either rearwards or at 90 degrees.
These connectors were all the rage, very briefly, with only a few manufacturers adopting them...
The Camcon connector will go down in history as a well intentioned idea, but one that never took off.
My recollection for its inception is as follows. Sometime around the mid nineties there was a real fear that the beloved 4mm (aka 'banana') plugs that we use in the industry could have been outlawed - the reason was that a 4mm plug could be inserted into the mains outlets in some EU countries.
The solution, which came in part from the British Federation of Audio (aka the BFA part of the name, a now defunct trade association) who helped develop an inverted 4mm connector standard.
Effectively the cable was terminated with 4mm (female) sockets and the amplifier had insulated male 4mm connections on them.
The BFA connector was only embraced by a few British amplifier manufacturers such as Linn, Arcam and Cyrus, there were two types, the binding post design that stood proud of the case in the form of a binding post (possibly only used by Arcam) and the flush version as found on Linn and Cyrus). As far as I'm aware no speaker was ever fitted with them, so that whilst it could be argued that it would stop people connecting a speaker to a European mains supply it wouldn't stop someone connecting their amplifier speaker terminals to it...
The good old 4mm plug outlasted it however and I am not aware of any item of equipment being fitted with the BFA Camcon for at least the last twenty years.
The legacy today is many 4mm equipped binding posts in speakers and amplifiers still have a plastic/rubber stopper in the ends to prevent 4mm plugs being used into them, but thankfully these normally pop out very easily.
The BFA Camcon still has its uses outside of legacy equipment, it is ideal for joining speaker cables as a temporary measure (just ensure the end of the cable connected to the amplifier has the BFA end on it, so if the cable becomes detached there's no risk of shorting...).
