The Audion Sterling EL34 Anniversary is an excellent introduction into the world of single ended amplifiers, and one that is able to work with a wide variety of speakers.

One EL34 is used per channel in Ultra Linear connected Single Ended with a touch of feedback. The circuit is classic Audion, it's wonderfully simply - no unnecessary parts to corrupt the music. A 6H1N (which can be substituted for 6922, 6DJ8 and ECC88 in this application) dual triode is used to drive the output valve and a 5687 dual triode is used as the input tube.

The Sterling EL34 is a wonderfully simple circuit, with wise design choices that mean it presents a very good compromise of speed to build, parts quality and price. To reduce the man hours a PCB is used (rather than hard wiring) and the parts are of good audio quality throughout.

Don't be put off by the 12 watt per channel rating, this amplifier will surprise with its ability to drive a huge variety of loudspeakers. 

As you'd expect from a good single ended amplifier, there are dynamics and naturalness aplenty which make most alternatives sound clunky and contrived.

As standard they come with a centrally mounted volume/gain control on the fascia (so it can be used to as a single input ‘integrated’ amplifier or simply to reduce gain when used with high output pre amplifiers or extraordinarily efficient speakers) but this can be deleted if preferred.
