The Audion Sterling EL34 Anniversary is an utterly wonderful amplifier, and the finest implementation of the wonderful EL34 pentode I've ever heard.

One EL34 is used per channel in Ultra Linear connected Single Ended with a touch of feedback. The circuit is classic Audion, it's wonderfully simply - no unnecessary parts to corrupt the music. A pair of 6H1N (which can be substituted for 6922, 6DJ8 and ECC88 in this application) dual triodes are used as the input and driver tubes.

What makes the Anniversary versions of Audion amplifiers is a combination of a few factors, compared to the entry level mk1 version the Anniversary has upgraded parts including much larger output transformers and a hard wired signal path. As ever with a circuit design so minimalistic it’s the quality of the power supply and output transformers that dictate the results, and here it’s obvious that they really are superb.

Don't be put off by the 12 watt per channel rating, like all good single ended amplifiers these have remarkable speed and openness, and an ability to drive speakers that belies its low rated power output.

The sound has a freedom, expressiveness, speed, dynamic contrast and tonal realism that would embarrass many much more expensive amplifiers. Can you tell I think it's great?

As standard they come with a centrally mounted volume/gain control on the fascia (so it can be used to as a single input ‘integrated’ amplifier or simply to reduce gain when used with high output pre amplifiers or extraordinarily efficient speakers) but this can be deleted if preferred (please note that the picture here is of the integrated version, so features a different front panel from the power amplifier).
