The AT33xMONO/II is an MC cartridge dedicated for playback of mono 33.3 and 45rpm records (not 78rpm). The new 'x' update feature various refinements that take it to the next performance level.
This is their entry level mono MC Cartridge and uses the new refinements found throughout the '33x' range including the new multi piece body designed to lower resonance. This cartridge brings a richly textured playback that is particularly suitable for mid-20th-century mono jazz recordings.
It uses a Samarium cobalt magnet and pure iron yoke (shaped for optimal monaural sound reproduction) to provide highly efficient power generation and warm, richly textured playback (which is the main difference between this cartridge and the AT33xMONO/I which uses a neodymium magnet and permendur yoke).
A 0.65mil Conical stylus is used with a hard duralumin cantilever.
The architecture of this model means that it just generates signal from horizontal movement only, which is optimal for mono record playback and helps reduce surface noise and record wear to a minimum. There are two PCOCC ((Pure Copper by Ohno Continuous Casting Copper) wound coils wired in the horizontal plane which means there's output from both sets of terminals meaning that it can be used into a stereo tonearm/system without any other changes.
Due to the appropriate compliance in the vertical direction this cartridge will not damage stereo records. The newly developed suspension mechanism and rubber damper design (with lower dynamic compliance than other A-T cartridges) enable the cartridge to be used with a variety of tonearms The newly developed suspension mechanism uses piano wire for even better tracking accuracy, lowering the dynamic compliance slightly for more substantial audio, particularly in the mid-low range.
The body of the cartridge is made from a combination of materials including diecast zinc, aluminium and a high rigidity polymer, all with the aim of increasing rigidity and reducing resonance.
