The M3 (Balanced CD Input) pre amplifier is available as both a line only pre amplifier and one equipped with an inbuilt phono stage. As the name suggests the CD Input is a balanced XLR connection, interfaced into the pre amplifier via a very high quality transformer.

Both designs have mono stepped attenuators for the volume control and feature the same preamplification stages which uses ECC82 and a 5687WB dual triodes.

The power supply is powered by a 6X5 valve rectifier and uses and ECL82 for regulation and a 5651 for voltage stabilisation. This complex power supply is derived from the work done developing their serious M10 Galahad power supply.

Parts quality is also excellent as you'd expect from Audio Note, with copper wiring, a mix of standard and tantalum resistors in key areas, Audio Note copper foil in oil signal capacitors and custom electrolytic capacitors used throughout the circuit.

The output stage is transformer coupled using in-house designed and manufactured, custom Audio Note output transformers which feature I-E M4 cores and copper windings. The transformer coupled output facilitates both single ended and balanced connections.

The phono versions includes an additional three 5670 valves for the RIAA stage, copper foil in oil capacitors and its own internal valve rectified and regulated power supply

The M3 pre amplifier in all guises produces an effortless sound with a wonderfully deep and spacious sound stage.
