Audio Note AN-S9 MC Step-Up Transformers (AN-S9L, AN-S9LM, AN-S9M & AN-S9H)

The AN-S9 is the top of the range model in the Audio Note step up transformers.

Using the finest transformers that Audio Note can currently produce, they are almost comically sized when compared with other step up transformers, necessitating the use of a larger chassis than the rest of the models in the range. The transformers are secured in place by a beautiful solid copper clamp.

The output connections are via hard wired Audio Note Pallas cables, which help minimise the number of connections the delicate signal has to pass through, but it can be ordered with conventional RCA output sockets if required. 

Like the rest of the range, their step up enclosures are made from copper and the transformers themselves are encased in mumetal screening cans.

There are three versions available, the AN-S9L where the 'L' for Low, which at 3 Ohms  is intended for very low output and impedance cartridges - primarily the Audio Note Io range.

The AN-S9M where the 'M' stands for Medium provides a 12 Ohm input impedance and is ideally suited to most other low impedance MC cartridges with an internal impedance of 3 to 4 Ohms.

The AN-S9H where the 'H' stands for High is suited to higher impedance MC cartridges as it presents a 60 Ohm input impedance and is recommended for cartridges with a 15 to 20 Ohm internal impedance.

*It is possible to use transformers with cartridges that have greater internal impedance, or values that are outside the preferred ranges of the switchable inputs, however, it is important to realise that an input impedance in the region of three to four times the internal impedance of your cartridge will usually provide the best results.
